Premise, the Theme
Landscapes of Mediterranean architecture are the built landscapes which include the characteristics of contemporaneousness and, at the same time, the marks and reasons of their belonging to a geographical area, the Mediterranean one, as a natural and historical place of meeting of different civilizations.
Space for relations and social life are the architectonic environments planned to house and represent the progress of activities of collective interest such as public spaces, for mobility, business, culture, sport and free time.
The Seminar is coupled with a Prize under the same denomination.
Both the Seminar and the Prize are aimed at surveying the current routes of the contemporary Mediterranean Architecture as an expression of classicism and rooting in the sites, but also of the interaction of multi-ethnical cultures and the relationship between these routes and the eclectic and spectacular trends of global Architecture.
Structure of the Seminar
The Seminar will be based on short scheduled reports on the theme that will be dealt with in an interdisciplinary way by professors and skilled professional people, alternated with round – table discussions and workshops during which all the participants will be able to present their researches, projects, executions and confront on the several facets of the subject.
Information – Registration
The Seminar is open to students, researchers, teachers, professionals and operators interested in the theme.
The participation in the Prize is optional and restricted to the people registered in the Seminar.
A certificate of participation will be issued at the end of the Seminar.
The Seminar will be residential; the entrants may opt for residing in university colleges or similar premises at the cost of 15/18 Euro per night and 7.50 Euro per meal.

The Prize
The prize is divided in two sections:
Works (which have been) carried out
Projects or researches
Both the works carried out and the projects should comply with the principles pointed out in the premise.
In the section Works Carried Out can take part the authors, Architects and Engineers from the Countries facing the Mediterranean See basin. In the case of works planned collectively, the documents sent should be undersigned by the group leader, as the responsible for the project team.
In the section Projects and Researches can take part also students of the facing the Mediterranean Sea, separately or in a group, in this second case the team members will have to appoint one of themselves as a representative.
The Prize Landscapes of Mediterranean Architecture amounts to 2,000 (two-thousand) Euro for the section Works Carried Out and 2,000 (two-thousand) Euro for the section Projects and Researches. In addition n. 4 (four) acknowledgements of merit will be awarded as expenses refunds for a total amount of 2,000 (two-thousand) Euro.
A further Prize, called Archeoclub of Italy Award, for an amount of 2,000 (two-thousand) Euro will be assigned to a single Work, among all those presented, including the recovery of an archaeological site, building or a complex estate of historical interest, intended for collective activities congruous with its architectural characteristics.
All the awarded Works will be published, not later than 2003, in an issue of Architettura Città, a magazine of architecture and urban culture, Agorà ed., La Spezia.
How to enrol in the Prize
Registration form and related documents will have to reach, by mail or hand delivery, the Study Centre of Architecture and Urban Culture c/o Unicittà, by not later than 2.00 p.m. of 1 July 2002, in order to allow the printing of the catalogue that will be circulated during the seminar.
Papers requested
The admittance to the Prize is restricted to Works (projected and/or carried out) unpublished and executed during the last three years.
Two distinct steps are planned for presentation:
Step 1
By and not
later than 1 July 2002, as above stated, a maximum of 4 (four) sheets (size A4), numbered
progressively on the back and indicating on the front of the first sheet: Author/s of the
Work, customer, University Department , course, dissertation, professor and what else
needed in order to identify exactly the project experience and the situation in which it
took place, significant graphs in plain drawing and a short presentation in writing (Arial
12, with a 15 mm margin each side). The same sheets will be copied in B/W and collected in
the catalogue. The documents should be relevant to the theme of the prize and fit for
printed reproduction. Moreover, they should reach the secretariat together with a copy in
digital format on floppy disk or CD.
Step 2
Starting
from Saturday, 27 July 2002, all the entrants will have at their disposal a board of 3
(three) square metres on which to display graphic and/or photographic plates for a
collective exhibition. During the seminar the entrants will have the opportunity of
expounding their achievements in view of a better communication of their aims and
projectual results and discuss about the topics proposed, in order to promote the
circulation of ideas, knowledge and experiences. For more efficient presentation it is
advisable to prepare displays on slides, transparencies or CD for video projections.
Awarding of Prizes
The awarding of Prizes will take place at the end of the Seminar. The Works deserving an award will be selected through a vote expressed by each entrant the seminar.
Finally a panel made up of:
the President of National Council of the Architects or his representative,
the President of Archeoclub of Italy or his representative,
the President of the Association of the Architects of Macerata or his representative,
four (4) Professors invited to the seminar, coming from different University Centres
will award, stating the grounds in writing, the Prizes and Acknowledgements of merit.
